Mel Doughty began his publishing career in 1967 with Christian materials, sparking a lifelong passion for storytelling and community connection. After moving to Mayfield, Kentucky, in 1974, he turned his attention to local publishing and, in 1978, launched the Catalog of Homes. What started in his garage with an IBM typewriter, a process camera, and a tabletop press grew into a thriving enterprise that expanded across more than 27 cities. For the past 12 years, Mel has also been the publisher of the Mayfield Directory and Coming Home Again magazines, continuing his tradition of creating publications that serve and celebrate community.

Raised in Mayfield after being born in Lansing, Michigan, Mel earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Murray State University and a Master of Religious Education from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.

Beyond publishing, Mel has lived a life of service. He spent 21 years as a Baptist Campus Minister and later served as the West Kentucky Collegiate Consultant for the Kentucky Baptist Convention. He also founded King’s Players Youth Activities Inc - a 501(c)3 non-profit - to sponsor Creations Retreat in Gatlinburg, TN for over 40 years, as well as mission trips to support orphans in Russia and Poland and has supported churches through King’s Screen Printing.

Mel’s commitment to ministry and mission has taken him around the globe. This year marks his 25th year of coordinating international mission trips — including more than 35 trips to Poland — a reflection of his enduring passion for faith, service, and global community.
